The first main assessment under the property tax reform took place on January 1, 2022, taking effect from 2025 – the next regular main assessment is therefore scheduled for 2029.

If the actual or legal condition of a property changes materially, for example due to new construction, an extension or demolition, the property tax value is adjusted beforehand by way of an update assessment.

Owners are obliged to independently notify the tax office of such material changes so that the property tax value can be updated correctly.

In principle, the law provides for a regular main assessment every seven years, although the exact date of the next assessment may still be adjusted by the legislator.

Regardless of the changes subject to mandatory notification, no update is made for minor value fluctuations below the statutory de minimis threshold, in order to keep the administrative burden within a reasonable scope.
